MUSIC
May we introduce you… to Mercy Milano.
Who are you?
I’m Mercy Milano a DJ, Radio Host, A&R and Creative Director.
How did you start your career?
I started by collecting music, to find something new because I was tired of and upset about the music that was played in German clubs. I went to Amsterdam for clubbing and to listen to new sounds, because they were/are musically beyond Germany. And one day I decided to do it by myself - I started as a DJ. I started to bring a new sound to Germany to bring new sound to Germany to widen the peoples horizon - this is still my mission.
Can you describe the way you are connected to music?
I think art and music are connected with our society and souls and are a multi-language - because you don’t need to understand the words to understand the message and to feel connected to it - that’s why we are all connected and that’s what I try to do, I try to upgrade the mindset of the listeners through music to understand the world.
What kind of music Music are you into?
I listen to music with no borders. I like a lot of different styles and genres. Currently I’m listening a lot to Afro beats, European Rap & Grime, British Grime music - almost everything that sounds good to me. My favorite artist at the moment is Rema, a nigerian artist, I think he’s the next big act from Africa like burner boy. I like almost every tune of him.
My favorite music atm is african music because I like how they sing and how they roll on the beats, you never know what the next line is going to be or how the next melody is going to be like and that’s very surprising compared to music we know - magical.
Can you describe how your taste of music has developed over the time?
My taste of music developed by listening to a lot of music, searching for new music and also by reading and trying to understand the whole picture of the music industry and of the world of artists. What’s happing when two artists meet and when the artists have different background?Connecting all kinds of music and art makes me going with the zeitgeist. I’m always at the zeitgeist and sometimes even beyond. I often know what’s coming next, what the next big thing is going to be because I follow the roots.
What do you consider as your milestones on your creative journey? Are there people you have met who influenced you or somehow guided your way?
I think there were a lot of people who guided my way. Even in negative ways, they got me into the right direction. I don’t take this life for granted and I’m thankful for the good and bad people I met because they helped me finding my way and helped me to learn. I had a lot of milestone and a lot of people and artists who guided my way, even artists I don’t know because I was listening to their lyrics and I felt what they said and they teached me lot. Artists like Kendrick, Frank Ocean, ASAP - they all teached me to do my thing and to be myself. And when I finally understood it, everything started to pop off, so right now is a great time for me and the big milestones are still coming.
Can you tell us what inspires you?
I get inspired by great people who stand for something and fight for the rights of others. I’m also influenced by my environment and as I’m always looking for inspiration I try to change my environment from time to time. I grew up in an area where I didn’t feel inspired so I went to bigger cities like Cologne, Berlin, Amsterdam and traveled to Marrakesh and a lot more places and I want to discover many more in the future. This influence brings me to other places and other people to who I can „help“ with my influence and inspiration.
What are you thankful for?
My real name means thankful! I’m thankful for a lot of things, for my family, friends, for being alive, being able to do my thing and to chase my dreams and to share everything I archived with the people I love.
